GAA Launch new Gambling Awareness Campaign

‘Reduce the Odds’

The GAA’s new gambling awareness campaign, ‘Reduce the Odds’, aims to protect the wellbeing of GAA members and the integrity of Gaelic Games.

The campaign reinforces the ground-breaking decision by GAA Congress 2018 to prohibit the sponsorship by a betting firm of any GAA competition, team, playing gear, or facility. Specifically, the campaign aims to:

  • inform all members of the Association’s rules relating to gambling
  • highlight research identifying athletes as an at-risk group in relation to problem gambling
  • signpost persons in need of help to support services available in Ireland

Under 12 Girls

Our U12 girls finished off their season in style by attending an U12 blitz at Naomh Ultan Last Saturday. Many thanks to Naomh Ultan for the invite and best of luck to them as they have just started competing in the Ladies football for the first time and are competing very well. It was great to see many of the county ladies players and their Ulster final trophy at the blitz. The girls started with a difficult game vs Kilcar. Although we were loosing at half time, we battled back to have a good win. We then faced a much bigger & stronger Carndonagh team and were only narrowly beaten. In our final game we faced the hosts Naomh Ultan and the exhaustion from the efforts of the first 2 games saw us being narrowly beaten again. The teamwork and work rate of these girls is commendable. They never give up and have shown great improvement throughout the season. Thanks to all the girls for their efforts this year. Thanks also to the parents for insuring large attendances at training and providing lifts & support at all the games. These girls are a credit to Four Masters Club.

Leaving Cert Helpline

A Chairde
I would be grateful if you would please forward on to your members and post on social media the details of the helpline for leaving cert students and parents.
GAA partnered Leaving Cert helpline has now opened

The freephone 1800 265 165 helpline opens at 10am and will operate for six days. It plays a key role in offering reassurance and advice to students and parents through access to professional guidance counsellors on a one-to-one basis.

The helpline is sponsored by the Irish Independent and the Department of Education and Skills and will be staffed by members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, and a representative of the grants agency SUSI.

The GAA has joined as a partner and will host the helpline at its Croke Park headquarters.
