Four Masters GAA

Weekly Notes 16th April 2018

 Ladies:

Four Masters’ Ladies Senior team opened their league campaign on Sunday when they played Glenswilly in Tirconaill Park. Glenswilly was well organised as this team has played together for many years. Four Masters took a while to settle but they competed strongly in all areas of the pitch. Inexperience was a factor with Four Masters and lack of shooting practice cost them valuable scores. Despite the fact that Four Masters had the majority of the possession in the second half they failed to capitalise and Glenswilly ran out winners on the day on a score of 3-8 to 0-9.

Despite losing, this was a very gutsy first outing for the home team and it was evident to all who came out to support that these girls are dedicated and enthusiastic about their football. Hannah Crawford was outstanding leading the attack and driving forward. Still minors, both herself and Dionne Carr played with great energy and skill. Undoubtedly the score of the day was a tasty little point tapped over by Cliodhna Thomas who came on as a sub in the second half. Quite a few traveled from college for the game and even girls sitting exams eagerly donned the blue and white jersey. On Sunday next they face Killybegs in Tirconaill Park again, as Finntra pitch is closed. Killybegs is a strong, physical side so the girls will have to take their chances in front of the goals on Sunday if they are to emerge victorious. Support once again is greatly appreciated. Training resumes on Wednesday at 7.30 pm.

U12 Girls

The Four Masters U12 Girls made the short trip to MountCharles to face local rivals St Nauls on Saturday morning. The Four Masters were convincing winners on a scoreline of 5-04 to 3-00 with an excellent overall performance. In a high tempo game the passing and forward play was direct and effective leaving the Masters girls in control at all times. The play of the day came with St Nauls on attack and ready to shoot but tackled and dispossessed by full back Grace Masterson who skipped out with the ball – kicking an accurate pass to half back Aife Slevin, Aife kicked it on immediately to half forward Holly Toughy who in one move found full forward Emma Kennedy who slotted it over the bar – brilliant work all over the field followed and all 20 girls played their part.

Minor Hurling Report

A busy week for the team and after two games played this week mixed fortunes for the lads. The first game was a tough away task to St.Eunans on Tuesday 09th where a very strong home team showed their experience and depth and along with a lacklustre team performance from us left a convincing victory to St Eunans. On Thursday 12th an important game at home against another strong side from Dungloe. With the away team starting the brightest and leading 1-04 to 0-01 with five minutes gone the lads settled and in the next ten minute thinks were level.  Goals and points from Donal Buckley and Leo Dunphy , Evan Towey left the half time scores at 2-07 to 1-06 to four masters. The second half was a tighter affair and with Dungloe adding 1-03 but our lads kept the score board ticking over scoring 0-05 and after a fantastic last minute save on the line from Sean Conway left the victory to the home team on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-09. Credit must be given to all players available on both days, they now as a team have 3 wins from 4 with Setanta next up at home on the Thursday 19th.

Big Thank you to the Sweeney family at The Forge Bar for the sponsorship of the new team jerseys much appreciated Joe.
