Four Masters GAA

Weekly Notes 2nd April 2018

Ladies

FOUR MASTERS SENIOR LADIES

Four Masters Senior Ladies took to the field on 28th March when they played a challenge game against near neighbours, Naomh Brid. It was a very competitive match throughout, with Four Masters proving the stronger side. Initially both managers felt it would be thirteen a side game but both teams had full quota and some to spare, which is a very exciting sign.

Four Masters played some excellent football focusing on support play and getting direct passes in to team members. Fitness was not an issue and it is obvious that this enthusiastic bunch of girls are determined to make their mark this year. It was very heartening to see that Rosa Devaney and Jennifer McIntyre haven’t lost their passion and skill after a short absence. Not only was Jennifer defending with vigour but she landed over a few tasty points into the bargain. There was a great mix of age groups with some new minors welcomed aboard and some reliables like Rachel Crawford, Amy Jordan and Orla Mackel to steady the ship. Training continues on the astro turf on Friday nights at 8.00 pm and the first game of the league will be in Tir Conaill Park on April 8th against Glenswilly.

Under 12 Girls

Our U12 girls had a busy week in preparation for their first league game away to Ardara on 7th April.  We played 2 friendly matches, firstly a very tough Aodh Ruadh team on Wednesday and Naomh Brid on Friday evening.  Having learned from our mistakes in Ballyshannon the girls gave a brilliant display of football in Naomh Brid.  As confidence grew, the girls started playing flowing football, showing excellent teamwork, great passing, some fantastic points and well executed goals.  Training has paid off and the girls did Four Master’s proud.  Best of Luck to the girls in the league.

Under 14 Girls

Minor Hurling Report V Buncrana

It’s over ten years since a minor hurling team stepped out onto TCP for a home game and last Thursday evening 29th with their second League game saw a young team step up to the responsibility with a performance that was long in the making against one of the Donegals top hurling teams from Buncrana. Buncrana after the long journey settled into the game very quickly, putting 4 points on the board before a long range effort from Donal Buckley rattled the back of the net and Four Masters were back in the game. From here both sides battled with some fine team hurling and individual skills on show. Moves up and down the pitch flowed but with the Four Masters defence built on solid foundations in goals from Corey Byrne the defence started to move the ball onto the midfielders and straight to the forwards where goals and points followed from Leo Dunphy, Donal Buckley, Cathal Mc Glynn and with pressure being applied on the Buncrana keeper from forwards Luke Sweeney and Eoin Mc Cauley another goal left the half time scores at 4-07 to 0-06 in favour of the home team. Buncrana battled hard again at the start of the second half, scoring 2-01 unanswered scores in the first ten minutes but that was that and the masters lads settled again and with some fine free taking skills from D.Buckley and scores from L.Dunphy, C. Mc Glynn left the final score 4-13 to 2-07. With 17 players used all as proud mentors can say that each and every one gave 60 minutes of a committed and fine performance and after a good day for hurling and with another 3 players to come back into the squad we hope the team can move on from this. Any other persons interested in hurling come along to training every Friday 7-8.
